THE ROMAN NOSE

ROMAN NOSE   7,260 feet (Class 1)
Roman Nose is located 4.0 miles east of Silver Dollar Peak (and the main Selkirk Crest) on a subsidiary ridge that divides the Pack River and Kootenai River valleys. The summit has a Forest Service lookout.  ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­

Drive: Pack River Access. The Pack River drains a large area of the Selkirk Range between Harrison Peak in the north and Chimney Rock in the south.
0.0 FS-231, Pack River Road leaves US-2/US-95 at Walsh Lake and proceeds north for almost 20 miles to a point just south of Harrison Peak.
FS-2605 leaves FS-231 and climbs to the east, eventually reaching the ridge line near Dodge Peak. At this point, the road becomes FS-291. This road drops off the ridge and heads north until it connects with the extensive road system which leads into the range from Bonners Ferry.

Trail: FST-1, Roman Nose Trail. This trail climbs to the top of Apache Ridge and continues to the summit in 4.5 miles.
