UNNAMED 990-208

UNNAMED 990-208    2520m   8268′
This summit is above Mirror Lake south of Kaslo. It was climbed during an unsuccessful attempt to climb Trafalgar Peak. Excellent viewpoint. The Fletcher Creek area is in grizzly bear country (see introduction to Kokanee Group) and therefore the trail up Fletcher Creek has been allowed to be overgrown.

Drive: Drive up Fletcher Creek FSR 2kms north of Woodbury Marina. Go right at 1.2km. 16km Camp at the end of the road near its drivable end at 1730m (5680′).

Trail/Route: Walk the old road through a cut block to pick up the signed “Abbey Trail” at a switchback in the block’s far end. Walk 90 minutes on an excellent trail to height to land at 7000′, some 500′ above Upper Fletcher Lake. Switchback down to the north and then in a long descending diagonal around the upper Fletcher basin.
Ascend NW to gain a north-south ridge and follow north to an unnamed blocky peak. Reaching a point at 8000′ (990-207) on this peak’s east ridge. A 1000′ down to Bjerkness Lakes and a similar climb up was necessary to gain the easy west ridge of Trafalgar.
Climb the easy southeast slopes.
A cairn (no record) was found. (III,2-3).
FRA Paul and Scott Allen, Kim Kratky, 30/8/2008.

The last kilometre of the Fletcher Creek road is now deactivated to an ATV track. The upper Fletcher Creek and Bjerkness Creek Basins are very broken and rugged.

I would like to think of myself as a full time traveler. I have been retired since 2006 and in that time have traveled every winter for four to seven months. The months that I am "home", are often also spent on the road, hiking or kayaking. I hope to present a website that describes my travel along with my hiking and sea kayaking experiences.
