BUCHANAN ACCESS TRAIL

More commonly a mountain bike trail, it is also a nice hike. Requires a shuttle.

Difficulty: A1
Elevation gain:
Key elevations:
Distance: 8.8 km + 1.7 km at beginning
Time: 3 hours one way
Season: June through October
Access: Good
Map: 82F/15 Kaslo

Drive: From Kaslo, drive west on Hwy 31A for 7.5 km to the Kokanee Park turn off (to the left) and turn right, go up an old track 1km to the K&S Wagon Road junction. Then go straight up the hill for another .7 km to the trailhead on the right.

Trail: This trail is a point-to-point walk with no special high point. Climb steadily on switchbacks for an hour, then head down on a gentle slope and end up on the Wagon Road and the Cross-Country Ski Area. There’s a forest, wildflowers and a riparian area with bridges and iridescent moss.

I would like to think of myself as a full time traveler. I have been retired since 2006 and in that time have traveled every winter for four to seven months. The months that I am "home", are often also spent on the road, hiking or kayaking. I hope to present a website that describes my travel along with my hiking and sea kayaking experiences.
