YEOWARD MOUNTAIN

Yeoward is a gradually ascending plateau, culminating in a sharp drop on the NW to Railroad Creek. Views are panoramic to the Pinnacles, Selkirks and Valhallas. The alpine meadows are awesome in the wildflower season.

Location: South of Pinnacles Group, Whatshan Range
Difficulty: B2
Elevation gain: 650m
Key elevations: Yeoward Mt 2120m (6950′)
Distance: 6kms to peak
Time: 3 hours
Access: Moderate
Season: late June through October
Map: 82L/1 Eureka Mt, 82L/8 Mt Fosthall

Drive: From Vernon, drive east on Hwy 6. At 63kms. pass the Gold Pan Cafe, go downhill, make a U-turn across Heckman Creek and at 66km, turn left on South Fork FSR marked  “Pinnacle Hiking Area”.
0.0 Start on South Fork FSR
2.8km Turn right on Yeoward FR. Keep left for the next 13 km.
14km Turn right at the top of the hill
16km Park. Look for a rock-cut road, the start of the trail.

Trail/Route: Start up the rock-cut road for .5km to an old trail that continues for 2.5km. On the west side of a meadow, head SE on an old road for 2km that intersects with the road coming up from the other side, near the old cabin in the meadow.
Yeoward Mountain is visible to the NE as soon as you get to the meadow. The mountain is interesting geologically – The north side is sedimentary shale, argillite, siltstone, conglomerate, limestone and schist. The south side is volcanic flows with basalt and the east has plateau lava, basalt and ash.

I would like to think of myself as a full time traveler. I have been retired since 2006 and in that time have traveled every winter for four to seven months. The months that I am "home", are often also spent on the road, hiking or kayaking. I hope to present a website that describes my travel along with my hiking and sea kayaking experiences.
