The objectives are three peaks – Crowe, Neptune, and Neptune’s Knob – over a 1000 m elevation change. There is a possibility of a fourth peak, Mt Mackie, an additional 500 m vertical and 2 hours.
Drive: Meet at the Nancy Greene Summit. A shuttle vehicle will be dropped at the trip’s end where Mackie FSR joins Highway 3 on the drive up from Castlegar to Nancy Greene summit.
Trail/Route: The first summit is Mt. Crowe, a climb of just under 600 m. Then descend to the saddle between Crowe and Neptune and ascend 200 m to Mt. Neptune’s summit. Then down the east side of Neptune to the ridge and another climb of 200 m to the top of Neptune’s Knob. The elevations of the three summits are in the 2,100-2,200 m range. If skiing, it’s an enjoyable downhill 450 m over 2 km from Neptune’s Knob to the valley below Mt. Mackie. At this point, decide whether or not to summit Mt. Mackie – 500 m of climbing and 2 hours
Return on a deleted road grade along Mackie Creek to Highway 3.
