ALGERIA – TASSILI N’AJJER

Tassili N’Ajjer is in the far seatheast where Algeria borders Libya and fuses with the Sahara. It is one of the most spectacular landscapes on earth – orange sand dunes, rugged canyons, arches, rock formations. It may also have the best rock art in Africa – 15,000 animals and men recorded as a. intricately drawn pictographs protected by overhangs and b. petroglyphs pecked into the exposed rock boulders. Unusually large elephants, giraffes, and cattle show unusually good craftsmanship for being produced 10,000 years ago. This was the last time these animals were seen here.

About admin

I would like to think of myself as a full time traveler. I have been retired since 2006 and in that time have traveled every winter for four to seven months. The months that I am "home", are often also spent on the road, hiking or kayaking. I hope to present a website that describes my travel along with my hiking and sea kayaking experiences.
