The Anasazi arrived in about 1000 AD and built these dwellings under overhangs. Tree ring analysis of logs from ruins indicates a terrible drought from 1276 to 1299. By 1300, all the canyons were empty. They migrated south via Chaco Canyon and became the Pueblo Indians of New Mexico.
